Medium Hot: Protest as White Noise

Due to unforeseen circumstances, this event is cancelled.

This is part of the Protest and Performance: A Way of Life program

What happens when any kind of digitally circulated image or information becomes training data for Machine Learning-based image generation? In the last decade documentary cell phone imagery spawned protest and mass movements. How does this relation change, when any image becomes a raw material for derivative extraction by so-called AI models? As financialization reaches the core of ML based image generation, protest is still unevenly diffused through platforms, but it also turns - as in the writers and actors strike - against platform based derivative extraction.

Steyerl will present a new lecture Medium Hot: Protest as White Noise, live streamed into the Hub space from Berlin, followed by a conversation with curators Defne Ayas and Kathy Noble.
